Testimonials
I first came to Black Dog Farm in 2005 with a mare for rehabilitation and never left. Now, twenty years later, I have three horses in their care. Two are currently in training and one is enjoying his retirement.
Even though I live in Los Alamitos, I make the 77-mile drive, each way, because I can’t imagine my horses living anywhere else. The stalls are large with pipe enclosures, and the horses get turned out daily in good weather in either large pens or pastures.
Lynn and Chris Binkley treat the boarders’ horses as their own, with the upmost care and dedication. Lynn is a dressage judge and an amazing trainer and instructor. I purchased the three horses I currently own at her suggestion, and they have all done incredibly well at shows. I bought my black German warmblood gelding at the age of four in 2014, and Lynn has brought him along from Introductory level dressage to his current training and showing at Fourth level. My appendix quarter horse gelding was bought in 2018, and Lynn trained him in both traditional dressage and western dressage. He excelled in both disciplines and was the WDAA Open champion for California in 2019. Due to an injury, he had to retire, so I purchased a five-year-old Oldenburg gelding in 2022, and he, too, is training in both traditional and western dressage. His show record is outstanding; he was the WDAA Open champion for California in 2023 and 2024, and most recently was the 2025 Level 1 Open champion in the WDAA International Online Challenge competition. He has won many more awards, which are too many to name here.
All this information is to make a point: if you want a trainer/instructor to help you achieve your goals in learning and/or showing either traditional dressage or western dressage, you won’t find anyone better than Lynn Binkley. She understands what a horse needs to excel in dressage, both physically and mentally. Also, you won’t find a more caring and supportive place for rehab or a wonderful, peaceful environment for riding than Black Dog Farm.

Black Dog Farm is a beautiful ranch that is extremely well kept with two arenas and a round pen that are groomed regularly and have great footing. On top of it’s beautiful amenities, it is run by two very kind hearted people Lynn and Chris Binkley whom I have had the joy of getting to know over the years.
Lynn is the trainer at the ranch and I met her about 10 years ago when I started taking dressage lessons from her. She is an excellent teacher and gives kind and encouraging lessons that are great for building a correct foundation for Dressage and Western Dressage horses that are just starting and those moving up through the levels. I have also had the pleasure of working with her as a team on some of the horses at her ranch that we have had a lot of success on together over the years. We have earned numerous Champion awards from our CDS Chapter along with Western Dressage State high point Championships, and even taken horses to the Western Dressage World Show in Oklahoma 3 times and won world Championship titles each time we went.
It is because of Lynn that I have become the dressage rider I am today, and I feel very fortunate to have learned so much from her.

I can’t say enough wonderful things about my dressage trainer, Lynn. She is incredibly knowledgeable, patient and dedicated to both horse and rider. Her depth of experience and understanding of classical and modern dressage training methods has helped me and my horse work together in unison with confidence and harmony. Every lesson is tailored to what she feels we need to work on to progress. I have learned so much from Lynn and look forward to my dressage lessons.

I was riding Hunters in the Los Angeles area when I first heard about Black Dog Farm. It was a dream come true for me; a beautiful farm with two large barns, lovely large turnout fields and pens, secluded longeing round pen, formal dressage court, a riding field, a log field for the horses to stretch out their stride, a large natural pond, a handsome farmhouse where the owners live so they can watch over and take care of the horses 24/7. I started to move my horses down as they were ready to stop jumping. It changed my life, and theirs, forever.
Driving down every weekend and holidays at first, then driving down everyday when I retired, I ultimately sold my Glendale property and bought a house at the base of the hill so I could be at the Farm everyday. That’s how wonderful Black Dog Farm is.
Lynn Binkley is the trainer and has more qualifications than most, even including being experienced in saddle fitting. We have several Dressage shows at the Farm every year, along with clinics with well known trainers. We also travel to shows but no one is expected to show; there is no pressure to show. The lessons are custom tailored to each rider’s goals and needs; Lynn personally teaches us, no matter how experienced we are, or aren’t, in Dressage. We have some very experienced top Dressage riders as well as hunter riders who are transitioning to Dressage.
I can personally attest to the extreme detail that is taken with respect to feed quality and supplemental mixtures tailored to every horse. The horse owners work with Lynn to develop their feed plan, then Lynn and her staff make sure everything is mixed just right for each horse every single day. A lot of effort goes into this every day of the week, rain or shine, holiday or not.
I can’t say enough about how honored I am to be part of the Black Dog Farm “family”. My horses are so well cared for, they are very happy. When I drive up to the gate each day, I count my lucky stars that I have such a wonderful place to learn Dressage, increase my knowledge about feed and nutrition, as well as learn about horsemanship from every perspective whether it be behavioral ground work, equine fitness, advanced grooming techniques, the list goes on and on.

Proud owner of Berlin and Tempo; proud former owner of Cortez until he passed at the age of 31, the best horse ever! I could never imagine that he would have had such a rich life at such a beautiful place in his later years. He earned it and Black Dog Farm provided it to him.
